Read Genesis Chapters 1 and 2
I just started teaching Disciple 1 Bible Study a couple of weeks ago. I really love teaching Disciple 1. It is a great overview of the entire Bible.
We of course started with the book of Genesis. I have lots of favorite scriptures but I really and truly love Genesis. I have a poster of the entire book hanging in the foyer of my house. Last Sunday we talked about the creation stories. One of the things that the creation story makes perfectly clear is that God created. Everything that is came from God. There were not other divine creatures who had some kind of divine war and bumped up against each other thereby causing to come into being certain things in the world as other ancient creation stories claim. No, God created the world. And as God created it, God called it good.
I do not see the Biblical creation story as standing against science. For the most part, when push comes to shove, science cannot disprove faith. In the findings of science, faith sees compelling evidence of God's creativity and stands in even greater awe of the diversity and complexity of God's works. Faith also keeps science in healthy perspective. Science is a tool for understanding and appreciating God's creation, but cannot replace the Creator as the recipient of our ultimate loyalty and trust.
So take time to read againg the wonderful accounts of creation in chapters 1 and 2 of Genesis and give thanks to God for the gift of creation. God's handiwork is truly amazing.
How does science influence the ways that you see God in the world?
